Volume is its own kind of evidence

Eight and a half thousand ratings is the largest count in our shortlist by a wide margin. That matters in a way a score does not: a rating average can be carried by a few dozen happy buyers, but a count that size cannot be assembled quickly, and it cannot be walked back.

His 4.7 sits below sellers here with a fraction of the orders. Read in isolation that looks like a mark against him. Read next to the count it is closer to the opposite, because scores drift down as volume grows and a seller with thousands of orders has had thousands of chances to disappoint someone.

Where he sits on the line that matters

Repeat orders at 23% put him just under the 25% cut we used, the one that took a 125 seller shortlist down to 12. Two points is not a verdict. It is a reminder that the cut is ours, not the marketplace's, and that a line drawn anywhere will have somebody sitting just below it.

What these numbers cannot tell you

• Which part of his list your clicks come from on the day you order.
• Whether the buyers who reported sales were selling anything like your offer.
• How his traffic performs against your page, which no listing can answer.
